Lethargy
Words by: Saanvi Gutta, Grade 9
Withered and wilted, I awoke from a dream.
Lethargy in my head, right at the seam.
Dragging my limbs across the floor,
Simply because, and nothing more.

Waited impatiently for night to fall,
But I laid awake with no sleep at all.
Couldn’t think of things to pass the time,
But thought of a poem with a rhyme.

I saw thousands of colors today,
Though all of them were shades of gray.
I talked to my shadow for a bit,
But she disappeared when I tried to sit.

I sat down to eat delicious food,
But I couldn’t eat because of the mood.
As my day kept getting “better”
The weather outside kept getting wetter.

My day’s luck was pushed astray
When karma decided to come over to play.
I had no reason to lock my door,
So karma came in and muddied my floor.

Karma made a mess and left me to clean,
But I was too sloth to clean a thing.
The day was passing too slow for me,
I wanted a drink so I made some tea.

But it was steaming so I left it to cool,
Went to the garage to grab a tool.
But when I came back the tea was too cold,
And I was too lazy like I had told.

So I abandoned the cup to fix the drain,
Since it flooded because of the rain.
But I wasn’t motivated to see it through,
So I left it behind as something to do.

My day carried on, like before,
I sat on my couch and watched some more.
At last, blissful night had fallen,
So I went to bed feeling sullen.

Under the covers, home in the dark,
Another day had made its mark.
I laid awake for hours that night,
But I felt too tired to end with a rhyme.
WEIRDO
Words by: Veronica Wanis, Grade 12
I was alone at home,
home alone.
The quiet gave me goosebumps,
as my blanket gave me warmth.
Alone enough to make
me want to bake,
and dance
in my own underwear,
laugh at my own jokes,
and even make weird noises.
I was alone enough to feel
a little bit safer,
and a little bit weirder.
